Nobody buys a process map. Clients and executives pay for the change between how work happens now and how it should happen. For most of the last decade that change has been assembled by hand: export the old diagram, export the new one, put them on a slide, and annotate the differences in a text box. The comparison is the deliverable, and it is the part of the work with the least tooling behind it.
Sapeum treats a process as a versioned object. Forking gives you a new version to edit while the original stays intact. Versions can be tagged, so "as-is" and "client-approved" are still findable months later, and switched from the diagram header. Comparison then works two ways. Merged draws both versions on one canvas, color-coded for added, removed and changed steps, with a filterable list of every change beside it. Side by side puts the two versions in two canvases, each with its own toolbar, and mirrors your hover and selection across both.

Differences inside a step matter as much as differences between steps. Long text fields are compared word by word, with removals struck through in the before pane and additions highlighted in the after pane, and they collapse to a single column in a narrow sidebar rather than rendering as unreadable stacked chrome. Every comparison view has a URL, so a reviewer can be sent the exact comparison rather than instructions for reproducing it.

Exporting a comparison produces one document containing both versions, with a shared header and a caption band over each panel. The REMOVED, NEW and EDITED labels drawn over the steps come with it, in their proper colors, at any zoom level. That last clause does more work than it looks like, because a diagram large enough to only fit on screen below a certain zoom used to export with no change labels on it at all.
